The European Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is America's native longhaired cat, but over the last several decades European breeders have shaped a distinctive expression of the breed that many enthusiasts have come to love. When people speak of "European" Maine Coons, they are usually describing a look: a longer, more angular muzzle, a strong and often squared muzzle box, large lynx-tipped ears set high and open, deep-set eyes, and heavy, substantial boning.

None of this makes a European cat a separate breed. A Maine Coon is a Maine Coon. What differs is the concentration of certain traits within particular bloodlines, and the careful selection breeders have made over generations to emphasize the dramatic, dignified type the breed is celebrated for.

Our foundation comes from carefully chosen European lines because, in our experience, they bring together three things we refuse to compromise on: substantial structure, distinctive type, and a steady, affectionate temperament. A beautiful cat with a nervous heart is not what we are building. We want the whole cat — the presence, the health, and the gentle nature that makes this breed such an extraordinary companion.

Type is only ever meaningful when it sits on a healthy foundation. That is why bloodline selection, for us, always begins with health testing and temperament, and only then considers the finer points of structure and appearance.
